THE STORY OF BAYPORT

The Story of Bayport

Surry Maine cottage rental When I was a kid, many years ago, I was lucky enough to go to camp. My counselors would read, by flashlight, each night a chapter from a Hardy Boys novel. So I would fall asleep with the following images in my head:

"Two bright-eyed boys on motorcycles were speeding along a shore road in the sunshine of a morning in spring. It was Saturday and they were enjoying a holiday from Bayport High School. The day was ideal for a motorcycle trip". . .

"The older of the two boys was a tall, dark youth, about sixteen years of age. His name was Frank Hardy. The other boy, his companion, was his brother Joe, a year younger."

"These were the Hardy boys. The Hardy family lived in Bayport, a city of about fifty thousand inhabitants, located on Barmet Bay, three miles in from the Atlantic". . .

Eventually, I amassed my own collection of Hardy Boys books and enjoyed each of Frank and Joe's adventures. The more I read, the more determined I became that, when I was old enough to drive, I would visit Bayport. Well I am sure you know, as I found out, that there is no Bayport. So, we had to create it . . .
